A friend of mine used to have a DU projectile as a paperweight. I wouldn't touch it regardless of his assurances of safety.
The major problem is when the weapon is discharged the projectile is vapourised and the gas and small particles can be ingested. Like heavy metal (lead etc) poisoning it builds up in fat and exposes the victim to its effects long term. The radiation is low level but long term exposure to any hard radiation is not real good for you.
