Default Going back to new post list after viewing thread

Ive noticed this before, but its time I addressed it.
After viewing a thread from the list of new posts and then going back to the list, I am always taken back to the top of the page. Pretty sure it used to go back to the original page position.
Is there a setting to fix this, or is it just a site characteristic?

i find the easiest thing to do is to open the thread you want to read in a new tab or window.

I agree with xr6turbo2005, open each thread you want to look at in a new tab, and keep browsing as they load
